i met with my agent last month and she had told me that i needed to get more location shots in my portfolio, so sad cause i love the control i have in a studio. a month later my prince in shining armor flew in from new york asking me to help him out. little did he know that he was there to make portfolio more diverse and please my agency. Thanks to PETE THOMPSON (www.petethompsonphoto.com) i got my hair and make-up out of a studio and onto the streets. The gorgeous JESSiQA PACE came along to play the part of our fashionista business woman out and about town. Here are the final photos:
iT’s TiME FOR ME TO “GLAMMY” the OSCARS
If you were going to the OSCARS this year then messy hair was a MUST! Another trend that really stood out to me was the use of red lipstick, a lot of the ladies were rockin’ the deep sexy color. here are a few of my thoughts about the big night:
I love myself an up style that lacks perfection, I mean something too quaffed can be boring, but some of these fancy hairstyles had way too many imperfections! case and point, let’s take a look at one of my favorite fashionistas, JENNiFER LOPEZ (the girl can’t sing but she surely can look beautiful). unfortunately, her loosely pulled back up style looked as though she was attacked by a flock of pigeons clawing and pecking at her hair before hitting the read carpet. She had fly-ways going every direction and when the hot latina got up on stage to present the back lighting made her mess much more prominent and completely see through. nothing drives this boy crazier then “tendrils” coming down in front or behind the ears, for some reason ms. j-LO thought she could rock them – she failed! next time she wants to go messy she needs stand in front of a mirror and decide a few of those tendrils hanging out need to be put back and pulled closer to her head.
Another of my favorite dress-up dolls is the corky and lovely SARAH JESSiCA PARKER. She too seemed to have a wrestling match with her hairstylist as well, she had more fly aways then mother Theresa had good deeds! But I digress, I wanted to talk about the make-up masking her beautiful face. I think that one of SARAH’s greatest assets is her piercing crystal clear blue eyes. Even though they are absolutely fabulous they are quite small and unfortunately she makes them tinier by using way too much black liner and shadow. The contrast is a great idea, light against the dark, but the black is used too liberally. It would be great to see her do a smoky eye with a contrasting orangey-brown shadow…the orange”ish” tone would really compliment and pop her blue peepers more then the black. If you have small eyes it’s important to remember that the over use of liner can actually make them appear even smaller.
NiCOLE RiCHiE has one of those faces that I would LOVE to do make-up one, great cheeks…beautiful eyes…..full lips….a corky face and then I see the mess they did on that masterpiece for the OSCARs and my heart breaks. Her shadow was so dramatically applied that it looked as though she was a contestant on RuPAUL’s DRAG RACE and getting ready to LiP SYNC for her life. Perhaps a littler more blending and not so much white on her brow bone would have made her look more like a real girl and not a man trying to be a lady. NiCOLE’s hair was so simple and sleek and i would love to have seen her do some fabulous modernized 7o’s make-up that was retro but still not so over powering. i always think that simple can speak a lot louder then over done and over powering make-up, especially when you are at an event and not on a photo shoot.
The most coveted award of OSCAR night is of course the GLAMMY, which is chosen by yours truly and it’s time to reveal the winner. This really was a close race, there were two ladies that I simple adored, AMANDA SEYFRiED and DiANE KRUGER. Both of these women looked absolutely stunning. I really love the clean fresh face, the natural dewy glow, the soft light make-up, a little drama with the beautiful black liner and lashes, and the soft pink lips. It came down to the hair choices and one was definitely a bit fancier then the other. Drum roll please…….DiANE KRUGER!!!! I loved the classy yet funky vibe of DiANE’s hair, it was styled impeccably and still had a sense of fun and whimsy. I really enjoy DiANE’s very fashion forward sense of style and willingness to do things a bit different and quirky….hence she gets to go away with the GLAMMY this evening!

MORE FANTASTiCS.
today at www.fantasticsmag.com they posted another story that i was able to do with BiLLY WiNTERS (www.billywinters.com) who not only shot the images but also did the wardrobe styling — super talented guy he is! i also got to take a break from the make-up side the photo work, the fabulous JONATHAN MENDEZ (www.jonathanmendez.com) worked his magic and made ms AMANDA look beautiful.
the super crazy thing about the shoot was that the model AMANDA showed up to the shoot with a grown out mo-hawk that was supposed to be below the shoulders but was really at her chin. so with a lot of fake hair, some major back combing, many hair pins, and a ton of hairspray i gave her a retro up style.
get to the site soon because it only stays up as the main page for a couple days!

OiL HER UP and MAKE HER SLiCK
sometimes work can be VERY sticky, but nothing can compare to this shot i did with STAN MUSILEK (www.stanmusilek.com). i have to tell you it was a pretty rough day on set having to rub baby oil and spraying castor oil all over JESSIQA’s beautiful body, she was such a good sport – STAN kept saying, “SHiNiER!!!” this was such a great shoot, i’d never had the opportunity to do make-up and hair for a “wet” look. i definitely kept the makeup light and used a lot of creams so they wouldn’t run.

PATENT LEATHER RED LiPS….OH LA LA
i thought that since i shared my most favorite lip color that is very very pale i should also share a color that is a little bit darker. basically i am going from one extreme to the other! red is a very daring color for most women to wear, it can scare many away from trying it out. i think red lips can be the sexiest color for a woman to wear, and also come off as very powerful. MAC cosmetics (www.macosmetics.com) has one of the most beautiful reds – LADY BUG. i really love the brightness of the color. if you want to finish this lip off with a lot of shine, i put MACs TiNTED LiPGLASS RUSSiAN RED over the top.

the iNViSiBLE LiP…
my favorite lip color is the color that disappears! i am in love with nude lips and my favorite lipstick color to accomplish this look is MYTH by MAC COSMETiCS (www.maccosmetics.com).
it’s important when you play down or take away your lip color you add some drama somewhere else – darken your eyes, use more eye liner, or make you blush a little darker. this way you won’t look sickly pale.

ANOTHER DRY LiP TiP
i thought that i would dub this week – LiP week. hence, i am coming at you with another little quick tip when applying your lip stick to your beautiful kissers. a lot of times lip sticks are very drying and can leave your lips longing for some moisture. applying gloss over the top doesn’t really do the trick, it can just make your lips dry and sticky. what you need to do is apply lip conditioner, lip gloss, or chap stick to your lips, blot with tissue (you don’t want the conditioner to mute or water down your lip color), and then apply your lip stick on top. doing this should leave your puckers feeling fresh all day.

A SPA DAY FOR THOSE LiPS OF YOURS
do you ever have those days when you take a look at your lips and they are SOOOO dry that it looks as though the skin is peeling off? sometimes when this happens no matter how much lip conditioner you put on your kissers they just won’t soften up. all you need to do is exfoliate your lips and remove that dry old skin, get those lips of your looking lush again. SMASHBOX (www.smashbox.com) has on of my most favorite lip treatments, it’s their EMULSiON LiP EXFOLiANT. this sugar-based peppermint-infused lip exfoliant has vitamins and soothing conditioners to smooth and soften lips. poppy seeds and sugar granules gently exfoliate while cocoa and shea butter, grape seed extract and jojoba deeply nourish. it’s simple to use: apply to clean lips and gently rub until desired smoothness is achieved. if you really want to give your lips a spa-like treatment leave the exfoliant on for 5 to 1o minutes and then remove with a tissue. so take care of your lips and don’t be embarrassed to pucker up!

GLOSSY GLOSSY
for most people shiny hair equals healthy hair, maybe it all goes back to those PANTENE commercials with the super shiny bouncy hair! i myself can’t argue against this though process – i to feel that shiny silky hair looks healthier and much more luminous! One of my favorite finishing products to produce a beautiful shine is DAViNES DEFiNiNG GLOSS. This is a simple tool that you can spray on your hair before you put the hot tools to your hair or quickly spray lightly after you have coiffed it to perfection. The great thing about using this product before you flat iron your hair or wrap a curling iron around your locks is that it acts as a buffer between your hair and the heat – saving your hair from a little damage! The picture below is a shoot that I did and only used the defining gloss and a little hair spray for the fly aways.
