If you were going to the OSCARS this year then messy hair was a MUST! Another trend that really stood out to me was the use of red lipstick, a lot of the ladies were rockin’ the deep sexy color. here are a few of my thoughts about the big night:
I love myself an up style that lacks perfection, I mean something too quaffed can be boring, but some of these fancy hairstyles had way too many imperfections! case and point, let’s take a look at one of my favorite fashionistas, JENNiFER LOPEZ (the girl can’t sing but she surely can look beautiful). unfortunately, her loosely pulled back up style looked as though she was attacked by a flock of pigeons clawing and pecking at her hair before hitting the read carpet. She had fly-ways going every direction and when the hot latina got up on stage to present the back lighting made her mess much more prominent and completely see through. nothing drives this boy crazier then “tendrils” coming down in front or behind the ears, for some reason ms. j-LO thought she could rock them – she failed! next time she wants to go messy she needs stand in front of a mirror and decide a few of those tendrils hanging out need to be put back and pulled closer to her head.
Another of my favorite dress-up dolls is the corky and lovely SARAH JESSiCA PARKER. She too seemed to have a wrestling match with her hairstylist as well, she had more fly aways then mother Theresa had good deeds! But I digress, I wanted to talk about the make-up masking her beautiful face. I think that one of SARAH’s greatest assets is her piercing crystal clear blue eyes. Even though they are absolutely fabulous they are quite small and unfortunately she makes them tinier by using way too much black liner and shadow. The contrast is a great idea, light against the dark, but the black is used too liberally. It would be great to see her do a smoky eye with a contrasting orangey-brown shadow…the orange”ish” tone would really compliment and pop her blue peepers more then the black. If you have small eyes it’s important to remember that the over use of liner can actually make them appear even smaller.
NiCOLE RiCHiE has one of those faces that I would LOVE to do make-up one, great cheeks…beautiful eyes…..full lips….a corky face and then I see the mess they did on that masterpiece for the OSCARs and my heart breaks. Her shadow was so dramatically applied that it looked as though she was a contestant on RuPAUL’s DRAG RACE and getting ready to LiP SYNC for her life. Perhaps a littler more blending and not so much white on her brow bone would have made her look more like a real girl and not a man trying to be a lady. NiCOLE’s hair was so simple and sleek and i would love to have seen her do some fabulous modernized 7o’s make-up that was retro but still not so over powering. i always think that simple can speak a lot louder then over done and over powering make-up, especially when you are at an event and not on a photo shoot.
The most coveted award of OSCAR night is of course the GLAMMY, which is chosen by yours truly and it’s time to reveal the winner. This really was a close race, there were two ladies that I simple adored, AMANDA SEYFRiED and DiANE KRUGER. Both of these women looked absolutely stunning. I really love the clean fresh face, the natural dewy glow, the soft light make-up, a little drama with the beautiful black liner and lashes, and the soft pink lips. It came down to the hair choices and one was definitely a bit fancier then the other. Drum roll please…….DiANE KRUGER!!!! I loved the classy yet funky vibe of DiANE’s hair, it was styled impeccably and still had a sense of fun and whimsy. I really enjoy DiANE’s very fashion forward sense of style and willingness to do things a bit different and quirky….hence she gets to go away with the GLAMMY this evening!
